Pre-K Delay

Hooray! Coop will start school within the school district this August. He's been begging me to start school for about a year. He's pretty young, so it's Pre-K, not Kindergarten. I've gotta tell ya, I'm a little worried. Not that he'll make friends. Not that he won't understand the curriculum. Not that he'll have behavioral problems. Not that he'll have an asthma attack at recess. No, no, no... I'm worried that he'll be tardy every darn day.

I let him sleep in the other day. Just as a test. At 9:30 a.m. I finally woke him up because I wasn't sure how long it would go on and was starting to wonder if someone was gassing him. How bad is it going to be? You mothers with sleepers, am I going to hate school because my kid can't get out of bed?

PS -- Leave me a comment with the best/most horrific getting to school story and I'll send you something from my etsy shop. Not kidding.

I am concerned about getting my third child off to school on time too. He is on his dads schedule, my husband works 2nd shift and my little one goes to bed about 11:30pm (sometimes later) and gets up at 10 am and is a bear ALL day if you wake him early. As far as horrific school stories (you asked for it!) When my first child went off to school I was so nervous for him, when the bus came to drop him off at the end of the day he wasn't on it. The bus driver didn't know if he got off the bus at another stop or if he was even on his bus to begin with. Took over 1/2 hour to locate him, it was aweful (he was finally found on another bus), thankfully they keep track of kids better now! (guess that counts as a late story, but we weren't the late ones!)

No story here, YET! But whatever your giving him I want some of it. I can't get Crew to sleep in for anything.

Hahaha - Chase wakes up at 5:30am so we don't have this problem - I'm envious of your problem! Chance has quite the story about getting AJ to daycard so I hope she shares it.

The craziest sleep-in story I ever experienced stars non other than your brother, ADAM, who was the most difficult child to wake up and get to school, ever!!! The story has nothing to do with school, but is still worthy of a retell. On the morning of the 9/11 tragedy to the twin towers, I ran downstairs to his basement room and told him to get up quick, that we were experiencing history in the making. I ran back upstairs glued to the TV. An hour passed, still no ADAM. I tried to wake him again, when the second tower crashed. I told him that he would be hearing and reading about this morning for the rest of his life. He would groan, tell me to get lost and roll over. Finally, I took a radio to his room and turned it on so at least he could hear what was happening. Still, no response. Finally at noon...he came storming up the stairs ranting and raving about the morning's events. It had finally sunk in what was happening and he couldn't believe he had missed it. Unbelievable!

I am laughing, reading the story about Adam, because he still is impossible to wake up.

My worst getting to school story? Okay, so it doesn't involve me getting anyone to school, but it involved me. The first day of school of the first grade. Mom walked Erin and I to the corner a block away, got us on the bus, everything great, right? Well, it was the wrong corner! We went to the wrong school. We knew it was the wrong place from kindergarten, of course. So the poor bus driver had to drive us to a different school. I was so scared.

And every year after that, we ran late. I read the first comment left by your friend--kinda like our past. Dad wouldn't get home until 10 or 10:30 sometimes, so we'd stay up to watch tv with him (reruns of MASH). So I've pretty much been a night owl my whole life. I would like to change (especially since Claire wakes up at 6-6:30!), but it's really hard to change my ways. So I still drag all day. Sad.

The only one I can think of is waiting for the school bus at the Redford's driveway, it was just across the street. It was so cold that morning that the nose hairs in my nose became hard and brittle. All the kids at the bus stop were complaining about there frozen nose hair. We waited forever...we were only about 8, so time could be out of wack. The bus finally came and we all got in the bus finally! I remember being so relieved. MY NOSE hurt! It had to be way below zero. I have never forgot the day it was so cold my nose hairs froze on the way to school.
