days 4 and 5: Cooper Goes Copper and Heritage Hike

For the past day and a half we've been having so much family fun there has been no time to write a post.
Also, I have fallen in love.
I absolutely adore sitting on G-ma Carole's patio swing. The boys love it, too. After a full day of field tripping it, we took retreat in the shade of the patio and the swing.
The Copper Mine was a fabulous adventure custom suited for a boy like Cooper. With its steady stream of big 'ol dump trucks chugging down in to the mine and another stream of them filled with rocks coming out of the mine -- he could not have been more excited. Everything we told him about he would reply with, "Oh yeah!"
Aunt Laurel was also good to point out Butterfield Canyon and some other historic sites that have a family connection to us. We also spent a few hours back at her amazing yard. Cooper loved picking the strawberries, mind you none actually made it into his bucket. I took a spin on the trampoline and was instantly reminded of how old I am and that I will likely never do that, again. But it got a good giggle out of Coop.

Today we twisted G-ma Carole's arm into carting us out to the This Is The Place State Heritage Park. What a fun time. Carole and Sarah came along for the ride and we introduced Cooper and Mason to the way of the settlers in the Salt Lake City Valley. I think that Cooper's favorite things were the train ride, the free cookie he got from one of the "pioneers" and the penny candy shop.
But he was very fun to watch in the small animals petting zoo. We saw about 100 baby chicks, a handful of goats (these were my favorite), a donkey, pigs, cows, lambs, ponies, and a turkey -- because what petting zoo is complete without a scary old turkey? Cooper got really close to the turkey and actually petted it and pinched its red gaggly thing (you know that strange waddle thing that hangs off its forehead?). We also waited in line so that Cooper could ride a REAL pony! I walked around the circle with him and Mason was strapped to the front of me. It was hilarious to try to walk through the horse apples in flip flops, balancing with Mason's extra weight, and Cooper teetering in the saddle of a very bored, very hot, little pony. Fun-fun.
Tonight Carole and I will go to the awards dinner and cheer on our men. I hope they won some good stuff this year. But you really never know how these things will turn out. Tomorrow we have a full day of saying good-byes to our lovely family in UT and traveling with our ID family. Might not get a post in.
Much love,
hooli and coop and mas

PS -- I got bangs
